BACKGROUND
Compass Christian Church is one of the fastest growing churches in the Phoenix, AZ area and their new 2,000 seat worship center is helping to accomodate that growth. The 52,000 SF project features the worship center, a 3,000 SF cafe, office and green room spaces, a recording studio, and backstage storage. New outdoor spaces were created around the building including a baptistry, gathering areas, and game spaces.
The church decided early on that top-level AVL would be a priority for their new facility. They were initially drawn to Strata's experience in building the highest quality systems for worship centers across the country. But our focus on building long-term relationships along with great technical systems made Strata the right choice for Compass.
CONSULTING & DESIGN
The church asked Strata to be involved early in the building project and that decision provided great benefits. Before a shovel of dirt was turned, we began working with the architect and general contractor to ensure the church's AVL goals would be met. During the design phase, we provided consulting services, 3D modeling of spaces, and acoustical analysis of the proposed designs. As construction began, we were there to be sure no details were left out in the translation from blueprints to bricks and mortar. All of that happened before one piece of AV equipment was installed.
Of course, Strata worked closely with the Compass technical staff to develop designs for the expansive AVL systems including those in the worship center, recording studio, common areas, outdoor spaces, and cafe.
RESULTS
The centerpiece of technology at Compass is Strata's exclusive "Continuous Stereo" speaker system implemented in the new worship center. Continuous Stereo is a revolution in sound. No matter where listeners sit in the space, they hear a properly oriented stereo image. Listeners with seats in the middle, front, rear. and those at the far left and right extremes all hear the same left/right mix. It really has to be heard to be believed!
The speaker system is powered by JBL's VTX series speakers and subs, combined with Crown amps and DSPs. The core of the audio system includes Avid S6L mixers for front of house and the recording studio, Allen & Heath gear for routing and monitoring duties, Shure wireless mics and IEMs, and BSS controls for distributed audio in the common areas.
One of the most striking visual features of the new space is the 32' x 9' P2.5 LED wall from Vanguard. The center wall displays graphic content and backgrounds, while two 16' x 9' P2.5 walls, positioned left and right, provide IMAG content. Other video systems include switching and routing from For-A ,Panasonic broadcast cameras, and VidOvation wireless video systems.
Excellent theatrical lighting was a priority, so the production team selected equipment from Clay Paky, ETC, Martin, and Elation.
Other notable technical systems include, GreenGO intercom, G&D KVM, Lyntec power sequencing, and extensive acoustic treatment from Perdue Acoustics.
Strata not only provided us with great technical advisement, they turned out to be great friends. You can go hire someone to put equipment in place, or you can go hire someone who understands the ministry... If you want someone who not only understands technical (systems), but also can help you maximize your ministry, Strata has got to be the company you choose.
